The hotel
Viceroy Los Cabos is a 194-room beachfront hotel in the hotel zone of San José del Cabo, designed by the Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés and known for its shallow reflecting pools and white blocks. It is about 28.1 km from the Cabo San Lucas marina, around 30 minutes without traffic, and the drive takes longer at rush hour. The building opened in 2016 as Hotel Mar Adentro and reopened under the Viceroy name in 2018.
The hotel is on the beach of the San José del Cabo hotel zone, and the 2018 renovation added a beachfront pool and bar. The hotel does not say whether the sea in front is safe for swimming. Zofemat raises red flags on San José beaches when the surf is high, as it did in April 2026 at Costa Azul and Las Palmas, so check the flag first.1
History and curious facts
The complex was designed by Miguel Ángel Aragonés and opened in 2016 as Hotel Mar Adentro, with about 200 rooms, beachfront villas and condos around a large reflecting pool that looks over the ocean. Architectural Record covered it in July 2017 and quoted Aragonés saying that when he found the land he knew water had to be the main element. In December 2017 the investment firm Rodina Group bought the hotel, and in January 2018 Viceroy Hotel Group announced it would take over management and relaunch it in the spring as Viceroy Los Cabos. The plan called for 194 rooms, suites and villas plus 50 residences, a new beach pool and bar, a new arrival area and a larger gym and spa, with interiors renovated by the Guadalajara firm Al Arquitectura de Interiores. The hotel reopened in May 2018 as Viceroy's 15th property. The lobby moved from stark white to blue and sand tones, and five dining venues were rebuilt.

Viceroy Los Cabos is 28.1 km in a straight line from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and the closest boarding dock is Fisherman's Landing. The trip is about 30 min by car without traffic, according to the route OSRM calculates with OpenStreetMap data. At rush hour the drive takes longer, so give yourself a margin before boarding.

Boarding docks
There is no single dock for every boat. Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas, and your boarding pass has the exact one with a map link. These are the meeting points and the yachts that use each one:
Your yacht day
For couples staying at Viceroy, the sunset outing is the natural choice: you leave the marina in the late afternoon and come back after dark. Our transfer picks you up at the hotel entrance and takes about half an hour to the Cabo San Lucas marina, where your yacht boards at its own dock, then drives you back to San José; the driver collects the fare, which depends on the hotel's zone. Because the evening drive is slower, leave the hotel with some margin. Small groups who come for a celebration can book a private outing for a birthday or a bachelorette party, and from December to April whale watching is worth adding to the trip.
