The hotel
Royal Solaris Los Cabos is a 390-room family all-inclusive resort on Boulevard San José in the hotel zone of San José del Cabo, open since July 2001. It is about 28.4 km from the Cabo San Lucas marina, around 30 minutes without traffic, and longer when traffic is heavy. Downtown San José is about 5 minutes away, so most of the day trips from here start with the ride west to Cabo San Lucas.
The resort faces the Sea of Cortez on the San José del Cabo hotel zone beach, but its own FAQ says the beach is not swimmable because of strong currents. For a swim in the sea the hotel suggests Playa Palmilla, Santa María or El Médano, about 15 minutes away.1
History and curious facts
Royal Solaris is the hotel arm of Grupo Romero, a Mexican company from Puebla best known for poultry and industry. The group entered the hotel business in 1988 and 1989, and in September 1990 started running its own hotels in Cancún, two towers then called Torre Royal and Torre Caribe that became all-inclusive in May 1992. Royal Solaris Los Cabos was the chain's second hotel and opened its doors in July 2001, built in a Mexican hacienda style with gardens around the pools. The chain says the resort has been remodeled since, and its blog describes a renovated beach bar, a new outdoor jacuzzi and a new water slide. In 2024 Royal Solaris took over the hotel on the next lot, the former Barceló Grand Faro, now GR Solaris Lighthouse Los Cabos, so the chain runs two neighboring resorts on this beach.

Your yacht day
Because the beach at Royal Solaris is not swimmable, a yacht day is the easiest way for this hotel's guests to get into the sea. Our transfer picks you up at the lobby and drives you about half an hour to the Cabo San Lucas marina, where your yacht boards at its own dock, then brings you back; the driver collects the fare, which depends on the hotel's zone. Families with younger kids usually pick a morning snorkel outing and are back in time for the afternoon at the water park. From December to April, whale watching is a good choice for kids who are old enough for a few hours on deck, and a group celebrating a birthday can book its own outing.
