The hotel

Cabo Azul, a Hilton Vacation Club, is a beachfront resort of suites with full kitchens on 12 acres of the hotel zone in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur. It is about 28.5 km from the Cabo San Lucas marina, around 32 minutes without traffic, and longer at rush hour. Guests who want a day on the water ride along the Transpeninsular highway to Cabo San Lucas, where every yacht boards at its own dock in the marina.

The resort sits on the open beach of the San José del Cabo hotel zone, facing the Sea of Cortez. The resort's own pages do not say whether the sea in front is safe for swimming, and surf on this stretch changes a lot: in April 2026 Zofemat raised red flags on San José beaches such as Costa Azul and Las Palmas and banned swimming. Check the flag at the lifeguard post before going in.1

History and curious facts

The story of Cabo Azul, a Hilton Vacation Club

Cabo Azul was developed by Pacific Monarch Resorts, led by its president and CEO Mark Post. A press release dated July 17, 2007 announced an opening on September 4, 2007, with 332 one, two and three bedroom penthouse villas, a wedding chapel looking over the Sea of Cortez and a restaurant by the interior designer Dodd Mitchell, who also set the look of the whole resort. Hurricane Odile hit Los Cabos in September 2014 and the resort closed for repairs. Diamond Resorts, which ran it by then, reopened it on September 1, 2015, after restoring the original buildings and 154 villas. In January 2023 the local newspaper Gringo Gazette reported that Cabo Azul had joined the Hilton group under the name Cabo Azul Hilton Vacation Club. Today it is sold as Cabo Azul, a Hilton Vacation Club, and the brand describes its architecture as inspired by the 18th century.

Your yacht day

A day on a yacht from Cabo Azul, a Hilton Vacation Club

Cabo Azul is a long way from the boats, so plan the day around the drive. Our transfer picks you up at the resort lobby, takes you along the coast to the Cabo San Lucas marina and brings you back after the charter; the driver collects the fare, which depends on the hotel's zone. Since many guests here travel as families in two and three bedroom suites, a morning snorkel outing works well: the sea tends to be calmer early and the kids are back at the pool by afternoon. Couples who prefer the sunset trip should leave the resort with time to spare, because the ride gets slower in the evening rush. From December to April, whale watching is the outing most people here ask for.
