Cabo is a good honeymoon pick if you want to spend time on the ocean. A private boat for just the two of you starts at USD 519 (MXN 9,799) for two hours on the Chaparral 28, a 28-foot sport boat for up to 10 guests that boards at Orange Dock 1-B, by Captain Tony's, in Marina Cabo San Lucas, and from November to April you can share the water with whales. Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included and the 15% crew tip not included, so a couple pays the same as a full boat.

The plan below puts the boat days where a weather closure can't ruin them, and then goes through which yachts make sense for two, what a charter includes, when the McKinna 70 is worth it, and what else to do between boat days. The couples experience page shows the trips we set up for two.

Is Cabo a good honeymoon destination?

For couples who like the sea, yes. Cabo San Lucas sits at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, and most of what people come to see is a short boat ride from downtown. The Arch is 1.2 miles from the marina and Lover's Beach is 1 mile away. Santa María Bay, one of the favorite snorkel stops in Los Cabos, is 6.7 miles up the coast.

Cabo runs on Mountain Standard Time all year, with no daylight saving, which matters when you're timing a sunset.

Some things to plan around:

  • Not every beach is for swimming. The Pacific side, like Divorce Beach, has big surf and a strong undertow. The swimming side is the bay: Lover's Beach and Médano Beach.
  • Fall carries some weather risk on the water. Most harbor closures fall between September and mid-October, and the Port Captain closes the harbor only under a hurricane or storm threat. If your boat day is cancelled, you get a new date or a full refund.
  • A private boat costs the same for two people as for a full group, since prices are per boat. For a couple, the smaller yachts make the most sense.

A 5-day Cabo honeymoon itinerary

Day Plan Why this order
1 Arrive, pool, dinner You'll be tired, and a late landing loses the light anyway
2 Private sunset cruise, 2 hours Early in the trip leaves room to reschedule if the harbor closes
3 Médano Beach or the spa A day with nothing booked
4 Todos Santos, or the Art Walk if it's a Thursday from November to June A day off the water
5 Morning snorkel charter, then the flight Snorkel trips leave in the morning, before your flight

If you're doing only one boat day, make it the sunset on day 2 or 3. If whales matter and you're traveling between November and April, swap day 5 for the three-hour whale season trip.

Sunrise breakfast or sunset for two

The couples experience has two time slots, both typically two hours long.

Breakfast on the water

Departures start at 7 AM. Order breakfast in the planner when you book, and it's on board when you arrive. Cash prices are in pesos; paying by card adds 16%.

Breakfast Price (cash)
Chilaquiles and beans MXN 325
Huevos rancheros MXN 325
Banana pancakes or French toast MXN 325
Yogurt and granola MXN 325
Sunny-side up eggs MXN 416
Serrano and burrata focaccia MXN 520

A morning charter on the 2-hour Arch route passes Pelican Rock, the sea lions, the Arch, Lover's Beach and Divorce Beach, then comes back along Médano Beach. It's 4.7 miles round trip, so there's no rush between stops.

Sunset at the Arch

Sunset in Cabo San Lucas comes earliest in late November and December and latest in early July. Check the time for your dates in the trip guide.

There are two sunset routes. The bay route stays near the Arch and Land's End. The Pacific sunset route goes around Land's End to face the sun as it drops toward the Cabo Falso lighthouse, about 12 miles round trip. Yachts from the marina may stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM, so a sunset trip can end with a quiet hour at anchor and the town lit up behind you.

The yachts don't sell or serve alcohol, but guests 18 and older can bring their own, so pack the champagne in your bag.

For couples, the months we recommend are January, February, March, June, November and December. The sunset cruise guide goes deeper on timing and routes.

What a honeymoon charter includes

We don't sell a honeymoon package as such. The charter price covers the private yacht with its captain for your group only, the route you choose and the CONANP conservation fee for the protected area around the Arch. A professional photographer can join for USD 180, with all the photos from your charter, paid directly to the photographer.

Food is ordered from the menu at cash prices: breakfast, a cheese board (small MXN 780) or anything else on the list. Flowers, a celebration cake, drone photos and hotel pickup are quoted separately. Decorations are cardstock and a sign only; the Port Captain no longer allows balloons on board.

Which yachts suit two people?

All of these board in Marina Cabo San Lucas, each at its own dock (it's on your boarding pass), and have a 2-hour minimum.

Yacht 2 hours 3 hours Good to know
Chaparral 28 USD 519 / MXN 9,799 USD 709 / MXN 13,599 Lily pad mat, Bluetooth sound
Bayliner 33 USD 599 / MXN 11,399 USD 869 / MXN 16,599 Floating mat, snorkel gear
Bayliner 30 USD 549 / MXN 10,499 USD 799 / MXN 15,199 Cabin, water and sodas
Sea Ray 40 USD 879 / MXN 16,799 USD 1,199 / MXN 22,799 Flybridge, towels

The Bayliner 30 is the one we'd point most couples to. It's a 30-foot cabin cruiser for up to 6 guests, with a professional captain, a cooler with ice, bottled water and sodas, and snorkel gear. The cabin gives you shade and a place to change, and the boat is a comfortable size for two.

The Chaparral 28 is the lowest price in the fleet and has a Bluetooth sound system and a lily pad floating mat for swim stops. The Bayliner 33 costs a little more than either and includes a floating mat and snorkel gear. If you want more space and a higher view, the Sea Ray 40 is a flybridge yacht with an upper deck, a captain and deckhand, towels and snorkel gear. Our best yacht for 2 in Cabo guide compares them by time of day.

The splurge: McKinna 70 or Azimut 70

On the McKinna 70 you don't have to bring or arrange anything. It's a 70-foot luxury motor yacht with a bilingual crew of five, including the captain, deckhands and a chef on board. The chef cooks a multi-course menu during the trip, starting with welcome snacks and fresh guacamole, and the crew serves complimentary drinks. The McKinna 70 has a 3-hour minimum.

Length McKinna 70, per boat
3 hours USD 4,499 / MXN 85,499
4 hours USD 5,999 / MXN 113,999
5 hours USD 7,299 / MXN 138,699

The Azimut 70 is a 70-foot flybridge with two cabins and an A/C salon. It includes a menu on board and complimentary beer and cocktails served by its crew of three, from USD 4,199 (MXN 79,799) for three hours, and a chef can come aboard at an extra charge. Both 70-footers take up to 12, so either works if you want to bring the families out for one dinner during the honeymoon. For two people it's a lot of yacht, with a full crew looking after you. The luxury yachts page has both side by side.

More things to do in Cabo as a couple

Snorkeling is the easiest second boat day. The 4-hour Santa María route goes past the Arch first, then up the coast to snorkel Santa María Bay, a sheltered horseshoe cove with reef along both points. Santa María is closed for snorkeling for now and expected to reopen in November; meanwhile the 2-hour option is Pelican Rock, next to the Arch. The snorkeling experience page has the details.

Whales start arriving in November and stay through April. The whale-watching experience is a typical 3-hour trip, best in January and February. Our whale season guide covers what to expect.

On land, keep it simple. Médano Beach is Cabo's swimming beach, 0.8 miles from the marina, with beach clubs along the sand. Our romantic things to do in Cabo list has the Art Walk, Todos Santos and the rest.

Valentine's Day in Cabo

There are no public municipal events in Los Cabos on February 14. What you'll find are private dinners at the resorts, each with its own menu and reservations. In 2027, Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday.

Our suggestion for the day is a sunset on a private yacht for the two of you, leaving about 90 minutes before sunset (the trip guide has the February time). The Chaparral 28 is USD 519 / MXN 9,799 for 2 hours and the Bayliner 30 is USD 549 / MXN 10,499, per boat with tax included. Bring your own bottle, add a small cheese board for MXN 780, and if you want to stretch the evening, the yacht can stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM.

Book February 14 early. Everything else on that month is in our February events calendar.
