The hotel

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is a luxury resort of about 119 rooms and suites on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, in the Pedregal hills, and guests reach it through the private Dos Mares tunnel, about 300 meters long. It is only about 0.6 km from the Cabo San Lucas marina, around 3 minutes without traffic, although downtown traffic can make that longer. It opened in 2009 as Capella Pedregal and became the first Waldorf Astoria in Mexico in 2019.

The resort is built on the beach and into the foot of a hillside on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, with an infinity pool that seems to flow into the ocean. The official sources we found do not say whether the sea in front is safe for swimming. This is open Pacific coast, so ask the resort about conditions before going in; for calm water, Playa El Médano is on the bay side, a few minutes away by car.1

History and curious facts

The story of Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

The resort opened on July 13, 2009 as Capella Pedregal, with 66 rooms and three restaurants: Don Manuel, El Farallon and the Beach Club. From the start, guests arrived through a private tunnel of about 1,000 feet carved through the mountain. In November 2014 the owners ended the affiliation with Capella and renamed it The Resort at Pedregal, then described as 66 rooms and suites and 21 residential villas on 24 acres, with the Luna y Mar spa. Hurricane Odile damaged the resort in 2014 and it reopened in 2015. In 2019 Travel + Leisure named it the best resort in Mexico, and that September Hilton converted it into Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, the brand's first hotel in Mexico, with 119 rooms and suites on 25 acres and a 12,000-square-foot spa.

Your yacht day

A day on a yacht from Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

The marina is only minutes away, so the yacht day can start almost the moment you leave the room. Our transfer picks you up at the resort, goes through the tunnel and drops you at your yacht's dock in the marina in a few minutes, then brings you back; the driver collects the fare, which depends on the hotel's zone. For a couple or a small group, a private sunset outing is the obvious pick, and a snorkel outing gives you calm water that the Pacific beach in front does not. From December to April, whale watching from a private yacht is an easy morning plan, with plenty of time back at the resort afterwards.
