The hotel
Grand Velas Los Cabos is an all-inclusive, all-suite resort at km 17.3 of the Carretera Transpeninsular, on the Tourist Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, facing Playa El Tule. It is about 15.2 km from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, around 22 minutes by car without traffic; at rush hour the drive takes longer. Velas Resorts, a Mexican family company, opened it in December 2016.
The resort faces Playa El Tule, a golden sand beach. Because of the rocks, Forbes Travel Guide suggests guests swim in the resort's three infinity pools instead of the sea.1
History and curious facts
Velas Resorts announced the project in 2016 as a 150 million dollar resort and its fifth property, owned and run by the Vela family: Eduardo Vela Ruiz is founder and president, and his brother Juan Vela is vice president. The building is the work of Guadalajara architect Ricardo Elias of Elias and Elias Architects, who had already designed Grand Velas Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit. He gave it a curved, half-moon shape with an open-air entrance three stories high, and every suite looks at the Sea of Cortez. Interiors were split among several Mexican studios, including Ezequiel Farca for the Lucca and Frida restaurants and Melin Castro for the spa and public areas. The resort had a soft opening in November 2016 and opened officially on December 20, 2016. During construction the team transplanted native trees and cacti and set up water reuse for the gardens. In May 2024 its Cocina de Autor restaurant earned one MICHELIN star in the first MICHELIN Guide to Mexico.
Around the hotel

A Blue Flag beach on the corridor with calm turquoise water and a reef for snorkeling. It is quieter on weekdays. Since the sea in front of Grand Velas is not good for swimming, this is the closest calm option, a few kilometers toward Cabo San Lucas.5
A sheltered horseshoe bay with Blue Flag status and clear, shallow water, best for seeing fish in the morning. You can reach it by car or by boat from the Marina.5
Getting to the marina
Grand Velas Los Cabos is 15.2 km in a straight line from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and the closest boarding dock is Fisherman's Landing. The trip is about 22 min by car without traffic, according to the route OSRM calculates with OpenStreetMap data. At rush hour the drive takes longer, so give yourself a margin before boarding.
We can book a driver who picks you up at the hotel, takes you to your yacht and brings you back. Grand Velas Los Cabos is in Zone 2: Palmilla to Fiesta Americana. The prices below are per vehicle and in USD, and you pay them to the driver on the day, separately from the yacht: the first price in cash, or the second by card on the driver's terminal, which adds a 5% fee.

Boarding docks
There is no single dock for every boat. Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas, and your boarding pass has the exact one with a map link. These are the meeting points and the yachts that use each one:
Your yacht day
From km 17.3 the ride to the Marina takes about 22 minutes without traffic. You book the transfer with us, the driver meets you at the open-air entrance and collects the fare, and he brings you back when the boat docks. The beach here is too rocky for a swim, so a snorkel outing is a good way to get into calm water during your stay. Couples may prefer the sunset sail; families can use the family outing, and the whale-watching trip runs from December to April. If you are booked for dinner at Cocina de Autor, a morning departure leaves the evening free.
