A spring break yacht charter in Cabo is a private boat with a captain for your group only, from USD 519 (MXN 9,799) for two hours on the Chaparral 28 for up to 10 people, about USD 52 each, boarding at Orange Dock 1-B, by Captain Tony's, in Marina Cabo San Lucas. The Pontoon 38 takes 18 for USD 869 (MXN 16,599) for two hours, about USD 48 each. Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included. March, when most of spring break 2027 falls, is one of the driest months in Cabo: highs around 79°F (26°C), water around 72°F (22°C), and humpback whales still in the bay.
When is spring break 2027?
There's no single date. Most U.S. colleges take spring break in March, and the schools that have posted their 2026-27 calendars cluster in the middle of the month: Iowa State University lists March 15 to 19, 2027, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville the same week. Some go earlier (Delaware Valley University, March 8 to 12) and some later (Community College of Allegheny County, March 22 to 28). Easter is March 28, 2027, so the last two weeks of March will be the busiest on the water.
If your group is coming from different schools, settle the dates before you book anything, including the boat. Cabo runs on Mountain Standard Time all year and doesn't change the clocks, so put the boarding time on the group chat in Cabo time.
What's the weather and water like in March?
March is dry and warm on deck, with cooler water. These are averages from our trip guide:
| March in Cabo | Average |
|---|---|
| Air high | 79°F / 26°C |
| Water | 72°F / 22°C |
| Days with rain | About 2% |
| Sunset, mid-month | About 6:29 PM |
At 72°F (22°C), the water feels cool. Most people swim and snorkel for a while and then climb out to warm up in the sun. A rash guard helps if you plan to stay in long. The wind tends to build after midday, so a morning or early afternoon start usually gets calmer water.
Are whales still around during spring break?
Yes. Humpback whales come to the waters off Los Cabos in winter, starting in November, and stay through April. The last official season ran December 15 to April 30, and the 2026 to 2027 dates come out in the DOF, Mexico's federal register, each autumn. January and February are the peak months.
If seeing whales is the point of the day, book the whale season trip, which is typically three hours. Otherwise, keep your eyes on the horizon during a regular charter and let the captain know if you spot a spout.

Spring break yacht charter cost, split 10 to 18 ways
Private boats are priced per boat, so the more of you there are, the cheaper each seat gets. These prices include the 16% IVA tax. The per-person figures assume a full boat and leave out the customary 15% crew tip.

| Sea Ray 36 (12) | USD 659, about 55 each | USD 929, about 77 each | USD 1,219, about 102 each |
| Pontoon 38 (18) | USD 869, about 48 each | USD 1,269, about 71 each | USD 1,619, about 90 each |
| Sea Ray 55 (15) | min 3 h | USD 2,129, about 142 each | USD 2,709, about 181 each |
In pesos: the Chaparral 28 is MXN 9,799, 13,599 and 17,399; the Sea Ray 36 is MXN 12,599, 17,799 and 23,299; the Pontoon 38 is MXN 16,599, 23,999 and 30,799; the Sea Ray 55, which starts at three hours, is MXN 40,399 and 51,499.
The 15% crew tip is a suggestion, paid in cash on board, and isn't included in these prices.
If your group lands in between, say 14 people, the Pontoon 38 is still the boat, and three hours works out to about USD 91 each before the tip. Payment is by secure Stripe link once the date is confirmed in writing, so the simplest plan is for one person to book and pay, then collect shares from the group.
Which yacht fits your spring break group?
Up to 10: Chaparral 28
The Chaparral 28 is a 28-foot sport boat and the lowest price in the fleet. It comes with a Bluetooth sound system, a lily pad floating mat, snorkel gear and a cooler. For a group of 10 that wants music and a swim stop, it covers the basics.
11 or 12: Sea Ray 36
The Sea Ray 36 is a 36-foot express cruiser for up to 12. It includes a captain and deckhand, bottled water and ice, a cooler, towels and snorkel gear, so there's less to carry down to the dock.
13 to 18: Pontoon 38
The Pontoon 38 is a double-deck party pontoon and the only yacht in the fleet that takes 18. It has a water slide from the upper deck, an enclosed head with a freshwater shower and a cooler with ice. Our Cabo party boat guide has more on how a party on it works. A DJ needs a yacht of 40 ft or more; our DJ on a yacht guide explains why.
13 to 15 with air conditioning: Sea Ray 55
The Sea Ray 55 is a 55-foot flybridge motor yacht for up to 15 with air conditioning, cabins and heads, plus a floating pool, a paddle board, a lily pad and a floating platform for the swim stop. It costs more per head than the pontoon, and it's the one to pick if the group wants a real bathroom and somewhere cool to sit. The full fleet by headcount is on our yacht by group size page.

Why a private yacht beats a crowded party cruise
Shared party cruises sell tickets per person and fill the boat with whoever bought one. On your own boat, everyone on deck is someone you came with. You choose the departure time and the music, and the crew is there for your group only.
Plans can change mid-trip, too. If someone gets seasick, the captain can head for calmer water. If the group wants another 20 minutes at the swim stop, you ask. A shared cruise can't do either for one group.
Can you bring alcohol on a spring break boat?
Yes, for guests 18 and over, which matches the legal drinking age in Mexico. We don't sell or serve alcohol on board, so the group brings its own. Pack cans instead of glass and bring plenty of water. If you'd rather order food, the planner has a Mexican feast for 14 to 16 people at MXN 4,550 and a burrito platter at MXN 901, cash prices, with card payments adding 16%.
Under-18s can come on the boat; they just can't drink.
Staying safe on the water during spring break
On the water, the crew sets a few rules, and the group should follow them.
- Swim only when the boat is anchored and the crew says it's fine. Life jackets are on board; anyone who isn't a strong swimmer should wear one in the water.
- Don't swim at Divorce Beach. It faces the open Pacific, with big surf and a strong undertow. It's a photo stop from the boat.
- Lover's Beach sits on the calm bay side of Land's End, and that's where people swim. Your crew can drop you close.
- Drinking and swimming don't mix. Anyone who's had a lot should stay on deck.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and reapply. The March sun is strong even when the air feels mild.

On land, check the current travel advice before you fly. As of 2026, the U.S. State Department rates Baja California Sur at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution. Our guide to whether Cabo is safe for tourists covers what visitors actually deal with.
A spring break boat day, start to finish
A three-hour day for a spring break group usually runs like this:
- Board at your yacht's dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas (it's on your boarding pass) in the late morning, before the wind picks up. Arrive 15 minutes early to load the cooler.
- Snorkel at Pelican Rock, inside the bay, where reef fish swim close to the surface.
- Idle past the sea lion colony, then photos at the Arch.
- Anchor on the bay side near Lover's Beach for a long swim stop.
- Cruise back along Médano Beach, Cabo's swimming beach, where the beach clubs face the bay.
If your group would rather catch the sunset, leave around 5 PM in mid-March. Yachts sail until 8 PM, and yachts from the marina can stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM, which makes an easy start to a night in town.

Cabo or Cancun for spring break?
Cabo in March has whales, a desert coast and cooler water; Cancun has warmer Caribbean water. Our Cabo vs Cancun comparison goes through water temperature, wildlife and safety ratings side by side.
Graduation trips and spring break groups that are also a bachelorette
A high school or college graduation trip uses the same boats with one extra rule, the 18-and-over drinking age; our graduation trip yacht guide covers what parents need to know.
Some spring break trips double as a bachelorette. If yours does, the bachelorette experience page shows the usual route and the yachts that fit.
