For a bachelor party in Cabo San Lucas, a private yacht day is the easiest activity to build the weekend around: your group alone on the boat, your own drinks in the cooler, a swim stop at Lover's Beach and photos at the Arch. The Pontoon 38, a double-deck party pontoon with a slide, takes up to 18 for USD 1,619 (MXN 30,799) for four hours, about USD 90 each with a full boat, boarding at Dock E of IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas, by Ultrajewels. For 13 to 15 who want air conditioning, cabins and heads, the Sea Ray 55 is USD 2,709 (MXN 51,499) for four hours. Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included; the 15% crew tip is not.

For the bride's side, our Cabo bachelorette boat guide has that version, and the bachelorette experience page shows the usual route.

Which yacht for the group

Count everyone, including the groom and anyone flying in late. Guest limits are firm, and a 19th person means two boats.

Up to 10 Chaparral 28 USD 709 / MXN 13,599 USD 909 / MXN 17,399 about USD 91
Up to 12 Sea Ray 40 USD 1,199 / MXN 22,799 USD 1,499 / MXN 28,499 about USD 125
Up to 15 Sea Ray 55 USD 2,129 / MXN 40,399 USD 2,709 / MXN 51,499 about USD 181
Up to 18 Pontoon 38 USD 1,269 / MXN 23,999 USD 1,619 / MXN 30,799 about USD 90

The Pontoon 38 suits a bachelor party because of its layout: two decks, a water slide from the upper deck, an enclosed head with a freshwater shower and a cooler with ice. The Chaparral 28 is the budget pick for 10 and the only yacht with a Bluetooth sound system listed. The Sea Ray 40 adds a flybridge, a deckhand and towels for 12. The Sea Ray 55 has A/C, cabins and heads, plus a floating pool, a paddle board, a lily pad and a floating platform.

For a groom whose group wants the top of the fleet, the Azimut 70 includes a menu on board and complimentary beer and cocktails served by the crew for up to 12 from USD 4,199 (MXN 79,799) for three hours. The luxury yachts page has it; the whole fleet by headcount is on the yacht by group size page.

Drinks and swimming rules

The yachts don't sell or serve alcohol. Guests 18 and over bring their own and load it into the cooler at the dock. Buy it in town the day before so nobody is running to a store on the morning of the charter. Cans, not glass: the deck moves and people walk barefoot. Bring more water than beer; four hours of sun goes through it fast. The Sea Ray 40 and Sea Ray 55 include bottled water and ice, the Pontoon 38 includes a cooler with ice, and the Chaparral 28 includes a cooler (add water at MXN 17 a bottle in the planner).

The crew enforces two rules. Swimming is only when the boat is anchored and the crew says go, and anyone who's had a lot stays on deck. Divorce Beach, on the Pacific side, is never a swim stop: big surf and a strong undertow. Our party boat guide has the rest of the house rules.

A four-hour bachelor party on the water

Afternoon works best: everyone's awake, and the last hour lands on the sunset.

  1. Board at your yacht's dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas (it's on your boarding pass) about three hours before sunset. Arrive 15 minutes early to load the cooler.
  2. Out past Pelican Rock, a slow pass by the sea lion colony, the group photo at the Arch.
  3. Anchor on the calm bay side near Lover's Beach for a long swim stop. Slide on the Pontoon 38, floating pool and platform on the Sea Ray 55, lily pad on the Chaparral 28.
  4. Food at anchor: a Mexican feast for 14 to 16 is MXN 4,550 and a burrito platter MXN 901 from the planner, cash prices (card adds 16%).
  5. Back along Médano Beach as the lights come on. Yachts from the marina may stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM, which is an easy start to the night in town.

Sunset is earliest in late autumn and winter and latest in early summer; the trip guide has the time for your dates. Cabo stays on Mountain Standard Time all year, so put the boarding time on the group chat in Cabo time. Our yacht day itinerary guide shows two, three and four hours side by side.

Music and a DJ

The Chaparral 28 is the only yacht whose inclusions list a Bluetooth sound system. On the Pontoon 38 and the others, ask about the sound setup when you book, download the playlist before the dock and bring a charging cable. A professional DJ goes on yachts of 40 ft or more, like the Sea Ray 55, with a compact sound system, a wireless mic and LED lights, from USD 399 for 2 hours (USD 649 for 3 hours on 50 ft and up, their minimum), plus USD 150 per extra hour, paid directly to the DJ. Our DJ on a yacht guide covers it hour by hour.

A three-day bachelor party weekend around the boat

Day Plan
Friday Arrive, buy the drinks for the boat in town, dinner
Saturday The yacht, 2 to 6 PM, then anchored off Médano until the group is ready for town
Sunday Médano Beach, the swimming beach 0.8 miles from the marina, and a slow day

Put the boat on Saturday rather than Sunday. If the Port Captain closes the harbor under a storm threat (most closures fall between September and mid-October), you get a new date or a full refund, and Saturday leaves Sunday as the backup.

What to skip

  • Glass bottles and glitter. Decorations are cardstock and a sign only; the Port Captain no longer allows balloons on board, and loose confetti or glitter is out.
  • Fishing, except on the McKinna 70's sport-fishing charter. The other yachts are pleasure yachts without fishing permits.
  • A 19th guest on the Pontoon 38. The limit is firm; for 19 or more, our large groups guide has two-boat pairings.
  • Leaving the photos to one guy's phone. A professional photographer can join for USD 180, with all the photos from your charter, paid directly to the photographer. Add it in the planner.

What every yacht on this page includes

  • A captain, and a deckhand on most yachts.
  • The CONANP conservation fee for the protected area around the Arch.
  • Departures from 7 AM to 7 PM, sailing until 8 PM, anchored in the bay until 10 PM from the marina.
  • A new date or a full refund if the Port Captain closes the harbor.
