Top Anglers Sportfishing Charters is a family-run fishing fleet based at the Marina Principal in Cabo San Lucas. Victor Vargas started it in 2004 with one boat; today the family runs 20, with more than 30,000 trips behind them and 4.8 stars on Google from over 150 reviews (figures from their website, October 2026). Rates run from USD 468 for a half day to USD 4,517 for a full day on the flagship, and you book directly with the family.

Who are Top Anglers?

The company began with a single boat in the Cabo San Lucas marina and stayed in the family. The second generation works alongside Victor today: Victor Vargas Jr. runs operations, Andy Vargas handles administration and bookings, and Max Vargas covers strategy and the fishing reports. Max is also an international sport fishing judge accredited by the FIPS-M.

The Top Anglers fleet and 2026 prices

The fleet runs from a 23 ft panga for up to 3 anglers to a 60 ft Hatteras for up to 10. This table shows eight of the boats with the rates listed on their fleet page in October 2026. Prices are in USD, per boat.

Boat Anglers Half day Full day
23' Panga up to 3 468 581
27' Center Console 4 698 863
31' Bertram 6 927 1,051
35' Bertram 8 1,174 1,288
40' Fiorentino (A/C) 10 1,479 1,582
44' Viking (A/C) 10 1,994 2,488
45' CABO Express (A/C) 12 1,994 2,488
60' Hatteras (A/C) 10 4,033 4,517

The rest of the fleet fills the gaps between these sizes, including a 28' Sportfisher, a 32' Blackfin, a 35' CABO Flybridge and a 36' Blackwatch. The 45' CABO Express crew won an award at Bisbee's Black & Blue in 2025, and the 60' Hatteras is the flagship. Check the fleet page for current rates before you plan, since prices can change.

Which boat fits your group?

Start with the number of anglers, since the rate is per boat. A couple or a small family can use the 23' panga (up to 3) or the 27' center console (4), which are the lowest rates in the table. A group of 6 fits the 31' Bertram or the 32' Blackfin (A/C), and 8 anglers fit the 35' Bertram or the 35' CABO Flybridge (A/C). For 10 or 12 anglers, look at the 36' Blackwatch, the 40' Fiorentino, the 44' Viking, the 45' CABO Express (12 anglers) or the 60' Hatteras, all with A/C.

The next choice is half day or full day. On the boats in the table, a full day costs USD 103 to USD 494 more than a half day (on the 40' Fiorentino, USD 1,479 or USD 1,582), so ask the family how many hours each option includes. The fishing grounds are 15 to 30 minutes from the marina.

What is included, and how to book

Every charter includes the captain and crew, Penn and Shimano reels, rods and lures, bait (live when available), ice and water, one fishing license, the dock and taxes. Extra licenses are USD 30 each. Food, drinks, beer and extra bait are optional.

There are no booking fees. The process is direct with the family:

  1. Message them on WhatsApp or write to [email protected] with your date, group size and half or full day.
  2. They confirm availability.
  3. They send a secure link for a 50% deposit.
  4. You pay the rest at the dock.

Tournament record

Victor Vargas captained the team that won two of three days at the 33rd CIPS-M World Championship in France. The family also took 3rd place at the XIX Mexican National Big Game Trolling Tournament in Mazatlán, has competed for several years at Bisbee's, and was named a Trusted Charter by Nautical Pathfinder. For 2026 they are the official backup team for the 34th World Championship in Italy.

If you are in Cabo in October, our guide to Bisbee's Black and Blue explains the week at the scale.

After the fishing

Once the fish is on the dock, you have options. Two marina restaurants cook licensed sport catch, and our guides to cook your catch in Cabo and Fisherman's Landing explain how that works. If your group also wants a day on the water without a rod, see our yachts for snorkeling, the Arch and sunset cruises.
