Cabo events in January 2027: the calendar, date by date

January 2027 has three events with confirmed dates in and around Los Cabos: the Tropic of Cancer Music & Arts Festival in Todos Santos (January 13 to 17), the Los Cabos ProAm golf event (January 10 to 14) and the San José del Cabo Art Walk on Thursdays, January 7, 14, 21 and 28. The marathon, the Wahoo fishing tournament and the gray whale festival haven't set 2027 dates, so we give last year's dates for reference. January is also peak humpback whale month.

As of October 8, 2026, the Baja California Sur tourism calendar (SETUE) doesn't list any January 2027 events yet. These dates come from the organizers and local news outlets. Where a detail isn't confirmed, we say so.

Tropic of Cancer Music & Arts Festival in Todos Santos (January 13 to 17)

This is the big one. From Wednesday, January 13 to Sunday, January 17, 2027, bands play from 2 PM to 11 PM at several venues around downtown Todos Santos, with international and local acts on the bill. The band The Cordovas runs it, and the proceeds go to local causes.

You need a ticket. The 2027 pass price isn't confirmed, so check the official ticket page on Eventbrite before you budget for it.

Todos Santos is 48 miles (77 km) north of Cabo San Lucas, about an hour on Highway 19. Shows end at 11 PM and the highway isn't lit, so plan to stay the night in town. Getting there, where to stay and how to move between venues are in our Tropic of Cancer festival guide.

San José del Cabo Art Walk (Thursdays in January)

The Art Walk runs every Thursday from November to June, 5 to 9 PM, in the Gallery District of San José del Cabo, next to the mission. Galleries stay open late and it's free. January 2027 has four Thursdays: the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.

The official start of the 2026 to 2027 season hasn't been announced, but it will be well under way by January. Our Art Walk guide covers parking and how much time to give it.

Los Cabos ProAm golf (January 10 to 14)

The 2027 Los Cabos ProAm runs January 10 to 14 on three courses: Cabo del Sol, Solmar Golf Links at Rancho San Lucas, and Quivira. It's a paid event for players, at USD 6,295 or USD 5,195 per player depending on the organizer's package.

It isn't a spectator event. There are no grandstands or public tickets, so unless you're playing, the only sign of it will be busier tee sheets at those courses that week. If you want to book a round of your own on another day, our Cabo golf courses guide covers the oceanfront options.

Wahoo Classic International (2027 date TBA)

The Wahoo Classic International ran on January 11, 2026 out of Marina Puerto Los Cabos in San José del Cabo. Fonmar organizes it and any registered boat can enter. The 2027 date hasn't been announced, so check the organizer's site.

Our only fishing yacht is the McKinna 70, on its private sport-fishing charter; the tournament itself is for watching from shore: the marina atmosphere when the boats come back in.

Cabo San Lucas Marathon (2027 date TBA)

The last edition was Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 6 AM, starting at Puerto Paraíso, with 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K races. The organizer hasn't announced the 2027 date. Some race listing sites already show one, but it's their own projection, so wait for the official announcement before you book flights around it.

Don't mix it up with the 21K Los Cabos in San José del Cabo. That's a different race, and it's in February.

Gray Whale Festival in Puerto Adolfo López Mateos (2027 date TBA)

The 31st edition ran January 30 to February 1, 2026 in Puerto Adolfo López Mateos, in the municipality of Comondú on the Pacific side. It had whale watching with 75 licensed boats, shows, food, a coronation and tours of the mangroves and dunes. Those are last year's dates; the 2027 ones haven't been published.

The gray whales at that festival come into the Pacific lagoons and bays far up the coast from Cabo, and you see them on local boats there. In Cabo, the whale you'll see in January is the humpback.

January is peak humpback whale season in Cabo

The first humpbacks reach Cabo in November, and January is the peak, with mothers and calves around and whales breaching and slapping their fins off Land's End. The official 2026 to 2027 season hasn't been published in the DOF (Mexico's federal register) yet; last season ran December 15, 2025 to April 30, 2026.

For a whale trip we recommend 3 hours. That gives the captain time to get out to open water and wait for a whale to come back up after a dive. Captains keep their distance and never chase the whales, and no one can guarantee a sighting. Near Cabo: La Paz and Todos Santos

Gringo Gazette lists "Disección", a play at the Teatro Juárez in La Paz, on Saturdays from January 16, 2027. It's the only source, so check with the theater before you go.

These ran in January 2026 and haven't announced a 2027 edition. Check with the organizer: - a salsa festival in La Paz, January 6 to 9; - the Open Art Studio Tour in Todos Santos, January 30 to February 1; - the Blue Whale Festival in Loreto, January 30 and 31.

Fitting a boat day into January

January is dry and mild, with highs around 77°F (25°C), and the sea cools from about 76°F (24°C) to 73°F (23°C) over the month. Sunset is at 5:46 PM on January 1, 5:56 PM on the 15th and 6:07 PM on the 31st. Our trip guide has the weather day by day.

Mornings are the calmest part of the day on the bay and the best time to look for whales. A 3-hour trip on the Sea Ray 40, a flybridge yacht for up to 12, is USD 1,199 / MXN 22,799. For two or three people, the Bayliner 30 is USD 799 / MXN 15,199 for 3 hours. Prices are per boat, tax included, tip not included. No alcohol is sold on board; guests 18 and over can bring their own.

If you're going to the Todos Santos festival, keep the boat day separate: Monday the 11th or Tuesday the 12th works, or any day after Sunday the 17th. Once your dates are set, pick a day and departure time in the planner.
